VW hearts and conscience.

I learned that not every opportunity to earn a quick bag of bucks needs to be grabbed even though the certainty of earning a handsome income is already nailed down. Heart & Conscience has to play an important role in making a decision that pertains to profit making.

I spoke to an old man from Los Angeles who was selling his 1961 VW 11-window camper with a German factory-made ragtop. This type is not common. He priced it way below the market price without being aware of it. I immediately closed the deal and told him I will have a tow truck pickup his bus in Los Angeles. When I called him the second time, I asked him why he was selling his vintage bus. He said that he is very old now and had many medical bills to pay. He had an operation and only depends on his social security. He does not seemed to get along with his son who lives with him.

After we hang up, I was bothered by my conscience. After fighting with my urge to earn a quick buck, I called the old man back and told him how to sell his vintage VW the right way. At first he did not want to bother with the whole process and wanted me to just have it. It took a while for me to finally convince him to follow my advice.

He took my advice and the following day, he sold his VW bus to another buyer for twice the price.

My friends at the VW club learned about what I did and told me that I made a dumb mistake. I have to admit that I felt bad because I let a great opportunity slip. But I traded something money cannot buy and that is I am able to sleep soundly everynight knowing that I did not take money that belonged to an old timer who used to be a VW enthusiast like me during his younger days.
